I hope that you had a fantastic weekend! It is rather beautiful out as I write this. This week, we will begin using the five canons of rhetoric to write your first speeches. Please make sure that you are coming in prepared. This week will fly by, so please make sure that you use your time wisely.
Below is the proposed agenda for the week:

Monday: Begin researching topics and begin writing speeches. Overview: Students work on adding memory device to their speech and pneumonic devices to their memory. Outcomes: By the end of class, students will have successfully have written their first draft of their speeches. Homework: Continue editing and practicing speeches.
Tuesday: Research and write speeches. Overview: Students will use today to research, as well as begin writing their speeches. They must use all five cannons of rhetoric. Outcomes: By the end of class, students will have successfully have written their first draft of their speeches. Homework: Continue editing and practicing speeches.
Wednesday: Review time slots for students’ speeches, opening activity: looking at delivery for student speeches, video on delivery: MLK speech, review and discuss the art of delivery on my website, and students will continue to work on their speeches. Overview: Through videos and discussion, students brainstorm a list of successful delivery techniques. With these in mind, they break out into groups to begin practicing for the big dance. Outcomes: Students will present a well written, highly persuasive speech utilizing rhetorical, organizational, stylistic, memory, and delivery techniques. Homework: Continue working on speeches.
Thursday: Finish writing speeches and practice speeches. Overview: Students will spend the class period writing and practicing their speeches for tomorrow. Outcomes: By the end of the period, students should be finished writing their speeches, as well as, for the most part, able to deliver them. Homework: Finish practicing speeches.
Friday: Students deliver speeches. Overview: Today students will begin delivering their speeches; this is their time to shine, as well as demonstrate what they have learned so far, this semester. Outcomes: Students will effectively and efficiently deliver their speeches using all five cannons of rhetoric. Homework: Continue preparing for those students who have yet to present.
