I hope that each of you had a wonderful and exciting weekend. This week, we will continue to build off of what you have learned over the past few weeks. We will focus specifically on understanding characters and their motives, as well as how we can learn from their decisions and situations.

Monday: SSR, vocabulary packets, students will turn in their writing assignments from Friday, read about the IRA, and read the Sniper. Overview: Students will learn about the Irish Civil War, as well as read the Sniper. Outcomes: Students will increase their understanding of recent history, as well as look at how a tough decision is sometimes necessary. Students will also continue to look at elements of a plot and how they can change depending on the authors intent. Homework: Review for subject verb agreement quiz. (We did not get to it on Friday.)
Tuesday: SSR, vocabulary review, subject verb agreement quiz, grammar focus: the eight parts of speech, group writing assignment: creating a scene (short story assignment). Overview: Students will be assessed on their understanding of subject verb agreement, as well as review their understanding of grammar and demonstrate it through writing their own short stories. Outcomes: Students will demonstrate their understanding of grammar, writing, as well as plot elements and character details. Homework: None.
Wednesday: SSR, grammar focus: the eight parts of speech, continue writing assignment: creating a scene from yesterday (This is due at the end of class), and begin reading The Scarlet Ibis. Overview: Students will continue demonstrating their knowledge of grammar and how to create a scene. Outcomes: Students will increase in their understanding of grammar, as well as their writing abilities. Homework: Review vocabulary words, and finish writing assignment.
Thursday: (I will not be in class today. I will be at an English department meeting.) SSR, review grammar notes from yesterday, grammar focus: student will create sentences using all eight parts of speech, finish reading the Scarlett Ibis, and creating a character assignment. Overview: Students will finish reading The Scarlet Ibis, as well as focus on their writing abilities. Outcomes: Students will increase in their understanding of grammar, as well as their writing abilities. Homework: Review vocabulary words; the quiz is tomorrow.
Friday: Vocabulary words quiz, grammar quiz, ssr, and review for the benchmark. Overview: Students will take their vocabulary and grammar quizzes, as well as review for the benchmark which is on Monday. Outcomes: Students will be assessed on their understanding of grammar and vocabulary, increase and demonstrate their understanding of the skills we have been working on for the past few weeks. Homework: None.
